Richardson Forum and Office Opening

June 22 - Governor Bill Richardson (D-NM) officially opens his Iowa office at SW 9th Street in Des Moines. 75-80 attended the opening, despite severe thunderstorms.


Earlier in the day, Richardson participated in the Drake University/ Iowapolitics.com "Cookies with the Candidates Forum" at Drake University. Subjects included gas mileage standards, the environment, Iraq, his immigration plan, and electoral appeal.

Giuliani Fiscal Policy Address

June 20th - Frm. New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani gives a speech on fiscal responsibility and government spending as part of his "12 Commitments to the American People" series. Giuliani operated a slideshow on government spending and his New York City results. The room was set with 300 chairs and 8 TV cameras covered the event. Giuliani started his remarks an hour after the scheduled start time.

Obama in Newton

June 18th - Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) holds townhall meeting in Newton. Around 300 listened to remarks and asked questions about Iraq, immigration, and education at the BC Berg Middle School Cafeteria.



McCain Picnic in Waukee

On June 8th Senator John McCain (R-AZ) held a townhall meeting and picnic in the Des Moines-area town of Waukee. Around 100 listened to 15 minute remark from McCain and then asked questions. The remarks focused on the immigration reform legislation, as it was stalled in the Senate just the day before and the need for the U.S. to remain committed in Iraq.

"Ask Mitt Anything" Des Moines Town Hall

On May 30th Former Governor Mitt Romney (R-MA) held an "Ask Mitt Anything" townhall meeting at the Hy-Vee Conference Center in West Des Moines. A good sized crowd asked the Governor questions after short remarks. The Iraq War, spending, and the Immigration debate were the most discussed topics.
